Mr. James Walsh

Hello, William Monroe Middle School Community.

My name is James Walsh, and it is my honor to serve as one of your assistant principals. I am excited to have a leadership opportunity at a school that values hard work, teacher innovation and strong community support. Together we can all work together to help our students grow both inside and outside the classroom.

I am entering my 15th year in education, all at the secondary level, teaching in both middle and high school. I have taught primarily the World History I and US government curriculums as well as the newly developed African American history class and have been deeply involved in the AVID program. I have been a department chair, summer school coordinator, AVID site team coordinator, and even coached middle school football and softball. I am also blessed to have a loving and supportive family on the homefront. My wife, Alyssa, is an elementary school teacher in Albemarle, and we adopted our son Noah in 2015. He keeps our family on our toes and our house full of laughter!

I am a native of Levittown, New York, and I moved to Midlothian, Virginia, when I was in middle school. I attended J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College after high school and then quickly transferred to Longwood University in Farmville, Virginia. When I graduated with my degree in History Education, I started my career in Henrico County at Short Pump Middle School. In 2015, I moved to Albemarle County and worked at Western Albemarle High School. The same year I moved to Albemarle, I graduated with my master's in Educational Administration and Leadership from American Public University.

Personal relationships are at the heart of what I believe makes a school community successful. Students learn best when they know there is a support system in place to help them through the challenges of school and also lift them up when a new concept is mastered or a new passion is developed. All of us - from administrators to parents to teachers - play a role in the success of our students, and when we all work together, we share in the achievements of the greater school community. This collaboration and this work are so important.
