5th to 6th Grade Transition

Students will rehearse and perform band music of all styles and from all historic periods. The band will perform at least two concerts during the year for the school and community.  

Students with no previous band experience are welcome in 7th grade band, but they will need to work on their own and with the teacher to develop necessary skills on their instrument.

Concert attendance and attire is required, and rental of instruments may be required.

Students will have a safe space to explore music and learn in a way that is authentic, meaningful, and relevant. This is a project based class that is student led and teacher facilitated to make sure you meet your goals. You will have the opportunity to create music using everything from digital synthesizers to making your own music videos or learning how to be a DJ and hype up the crowds at events throughout the school year.

Students will learn about Abstract Art and paper & 3-D construction. There will be projects that we will learn about visual texture, fun yarn and seasonal projects.  Artists and art history will be tackled with most projects.

In this class, we will be creating a variety of media types using science, technology, engineering, art, and math. From Virtual Reality to Game Design, Movies to Music Videos, Morning News to Advertising, and Acting to Destination Imagination, the sky’s the limit as we explore various ways to communicate information of the past, present, and future.

Through project-based learning and technical skill development, students will explore the importance of plant and animal agriculture, scientific principles, agricultural mechanics, natural resources management, and career opportunities related to agriculture, agriscience, and agribusiness.

This course will help students identify and demonstrate the workplace skills that employers desire in their future employees. Students analyze their personal assets; explore career clusters, career pathways, or occupations. This foundation course introduces the use of relevant and emerging technologies, tools, and applications to prepare students for current workplace practices and everyday life.

Do you like helping others?  The peer mentorship program is a class designed for students to create goals and projects to benefit all students and staff of William Monroe Middle School.  Students will select and design projects throughout the school year and plan activities for the student body.

In Yearbook class, students will gain skills in the following areas: page design, publishing techniques, copywriting, editing, photography, record keeping, time management, teamwork, marketing, and leadership skills. We will create the 2024-2025 William Monroe Middle School yearbook for the entire student body.

Creative writing is a course designed to provide extra experience in writing for various audiences and purposes.  Creativity is encouraged and developed in this course.  Students will be exposed to numerous writing styles including fairy tales, tall tales, narratives, dialogue, letters, biographies, graphic novels, and poetry.  Literature and additional types of media may be used to stimulate the student’s imagination, attention, and to prompt writing activities.  Our goal is for each student to create and share a portfolio of different writing pieces throughout the school year.

The National History Day program is a research based history competition. This course is an independent study that examines historical events around the National History Day annual theme. Historical thinking, research, and writing skills will be reviewed and emphasized in this writing intensive course.  Students will complete a research project such as a tri fold display, research paper, performance, documentary, or website. Commitment to academic excellence is required.

The primary focus of Resource class is to provide students with learning strategies, study techniques, organizational and social/emotional skills.  Students also utilize the resource room for testing accommodations and to receive/review, reinforcement, and reteaching of content area concepts. The overall goal is to offer students the tools required to become independent and self directed learners.

Selected based on previous years test scores, teacher recommendation, and parental input. Provides additional support in reading and writing for students.
